Well, if you’ve ever wondered what bittersweet chocolate beer tastes like, this is it! This black beauty came out of our Toronto brewpub in January of 2010. It is made with Dutch cocoa powder, cocoa nibs from Soma Chocolate across the lane from us in the Distillery District as well as pure chocolate extract. The Nitrogen charging gives it a real milkshake texture. We first released it for Valentine’s Day, 2010 cuz nothin’ says “I love you Baby” like an 8.5% alcohol chocolate flavoured stout!

First brewed at our Toronto brewpub, this Imperial Stout is brewed with mostly English ingredients and fine chocolate and cocoa. Imperial Stouts are high alcohol stouts originally brewed in England to be sent to the Russian royal court in St. Petersburg (thus the name). The Czar loved this strong style of dark porter and the high alcohol helped the beer to make the trip and the Russians to survive the winter! Ours is brewed with a blend of 6 English and German malts as well as cocoa powder in the brew kettle. English hops are used to help make the beer very well balanced and pure, natural chocolate extract is added to the finished beer prior to Nitrogen charging & kegging. This beer has a very strong, but subtle bittersweet chocolate character that gives it an amazing richness that is just perfect for winter when we brew it.

Tasting Notes: Dark chocolate aroma and first taste with creamy texture and drying finish from alcohol content. Slightly fruity complementary flavours from yeast.
