Dammerung Dunkel Lager
I’ve been wanting to brew a German-style dunkel (dark) lager for a long time and we had a production gap at our Ottawa brewery and we decided to take advantage of it! This is the first lager that we have ever brewed at the Ottawa pub brewery but it certainly won’t be the last. Low water hardness is important in many styles of lager and the Ottawa water being almost completely soft if very conducive to playing around with these styles but they take up lagering space that we have never had before. This beer is a classic deep amber/mahogany lager (“Dammerung” means twilight or dusk in German) brewed with 4 malts and classic German aroma hops to make a beer that is dark and very delicious. Perfect for the slightly cooler temperatures of spring or fall, this beer pairs very well with many different types of food!
