A Winter’s Ale

Brewmaster’s Notes

This little troublemaker tastes like your favorite aunt’s honey spice cake…but it’s beer! It is a very popular Christmas beer from our Ottawa brewpub.

A Winter’s Ale is a spiced Christmas Ale first brewed at our Ottawa pub brewery in 2012. It is a traditional spiced English-style “Old Ale” that is a golden-amber hue and infused with a blend of cinnamon, ginger, allspice and cloves. Brewed with 4 types of malted barley and highly aromatic German Hersbrucker hops, this beer is delicate enough to drink easily but robust enough to be an instant winter classic! The biscuit malt flavours and the aromatics of these noble German hops and traditional Christmas baking spices come together with locally produced honey to make a truly remarkable seasonal beer.

Tasting Notes: Christmas baking spice flavours in the aroma and the finish with some very nice “ovaltine” biscuit malt flavours on the palate to balance out some of the spice heat.
