Head of Operations

Role Profile
Mill Street Brewery is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Head of Operations. The Head of Operations is responsible for achieving pre-determined production volume/safety/Quality/Efficiency targets while providing timely customer delivery service with right product, right quantity with right cost.
Required Duties:   
  • Manage and lead the team of brewing/packaging/logistics/planning/QA/EHS/Engineering and innovation manager to ensure all parties are aligned to execute effectively on their responsibility.
  • Actively communicate internal status/updates to Mill Street GM, Brewmaster, VP sales, VP marketing, VP Brickworks, Finance controller and People Head that will directly affect total Mill Street performance on Brand, Market share and Bottom line.
  • Measure and track set KPI’s for each member of the operation team based on H1/H2 goals and incentives and provide constant feedback one on one on their current performance levels.
  • Lead daily meetings to ensure the operation team is well prepared/informed and aligned with production volume/Safety/Quality/efficiency objectives.
  • Accountable for customer delivery performance and resolving escalated service issues, in order to maintain, develop, and build solid relationships with all key and chain accounts.
  • Responsible for ensuring there is a balanced workload and distribution of duties between all members of operation team and make any updates/changes when necessary
  • Reinforce internal procedures and processes in day to day duties to maximize efficiency, streamline interaction between internal/external stakeholders and to ensure checks and balances are in place to guarantee effective internal control.
  • Lead individual performance reviews on an annual basis for each member of the team.
  • Deliver impactful and detailed cascading presentations at town hall meeting to improve employee engagement.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years supply chain/production/logistics management experience in a related field or industry. Able to provide a track record of delivering outstanding performance.
  • Demonstrated high energy level and possesses a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Open and apparent positive mindset.
  • Solid networking capability. Strong personal affect.
  • Polished and professional operation manager.
  • Possesses outstanding time management and multi-tasking capability.
  • Strong problem solving skills and initiative to adapt and overcome in the face of adversity.
  • Adaptable, able to meet deadlines in fast paced and changing situations.
  • SAP experience is definitely an asset
  • Commitment to building effective internal/external relationships with key stakeholders.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in food processing or business/engineering. However, a master’s degree or Master of Business Administration is often preferred.

Resident Engineer

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects for CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) for the brewery including budgeting, deployment, tracking and technical/financial policy compliance and contractor/engineering service providers
  • Department Head responsibility for Utilities and Wastewater operations at the brewery  (water and water treatment, steam, compressed air, glycol, refrigeration, effluent pH control and CO2 usage)
  • Lead brewery efforts related to energy, fluids and wastewater related cost reduction
  • Responsible for managing federally regulated boilers and wastewater systems within legislative compliance
  • Responsible for setting and managing the Utilities commodity budgets and targets for the brewery.
  • Managing equipment design and construction
  • Responsible for technical knowledge of safety, environmental, building and other related codes, permits and regulations associated with the brewery’s operations

 

Qualifications and Competencies

  • University degree in Engineering (mechanical, chemical, industrial or electrical)
  • 3 years’ experience in industrial setting; manufacturing experience preferred
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with an ability to work with limited supervision
  • Excellent sense of urgency, work ethic and attendance record
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • In-depth knowledge of utility and wastewater systems
  • Knowledge of government regulations pertaining to brewery utility and wastewater systems
  • In-depth knowledge of capital deployment and construction approaches, techniques and requirements

Transport Driver (AZ)

  • To ensure timely and safe delivery of shipments between Mill Street sites to customers across Ontario.

  • New equipment – nothing older than 5 years
  • 28’ Straight Trucks
  • 53’ Tandem Axle trailers

  • Hand-bombing may be required

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years accident free AZ licensed driving experience.
    • Must provide recent CVOR and clean drivers abstract.
  • Competencies:
    • Able to operate 53-foot trailers.
    • Capable of operating manual transmission and capable of maintain legal driver’s log.
    • Familiar with Ontario geography.
    • Experience with heavy haul applications and material handling equipment and excellent customer service skills.

Order to Cash Associate

  • Manage the recording and collection of accounts receivable in Canada
  • Assess risks against potential sales through credit assessment and rating tools
  • Maintain a sound credit policy which keeps credit losses and slow collection of receivables at a minimum, ensuring maximization of sales revenue
  • Provide timely guidance on the assessment of new customer credit limits
  • Derive timely resolution of disputes through negotiation and order freezing
  • Accurate tracking of customer responses and payment agreements into database

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Business – Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Experience with Accounts Receivables and/or Credit Management/Collection
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • SAP knowledge

Brew Pub Retail and Sales Manager (Ottawa)

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for retail sales of beer brewed at the Ottawa Brew Pub
  • Develop and implement local store marketing programs to promote retail and brew pub sales
  • Manage the retail space at the Ottawa Brew Pub and a team of part-time retail employees
  • Lead sampling and beer education programs for customers and tour groups
  • Help manage and develop content for the brew pub’s social media accounts
  • Manage the retail store merchandise and beer inventory, re-ordering based on aligned safety stock
  • Manage the growler program, which includes selling, collecting returns, cleaning bottles, filling and labeling bottles
  • Help the Head Brewer host beer dinners , design and execute of offsite events
  • Work with the Head Brewer to ideate and execute collaboration beers, brewed with other breweries, businesses, and groups
  • Organize and lead brewery tours
  • Assist the Head Brewer with small tasks in the brewery when required, including kegging, filling growlers, milling grain, cleaning, etc.
  • Run daily bank deposits and cash flow reconciliation
  • Create purchase orders and ensure payment to all vendors using COUPA (spend management software – training will be provided)
  • Reconcile inventory at month end, POS data to actual sales every month

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business/Commerce major is preferred)
  • MUST be fluent both in English and French
  • MUST be 19 years or older
  • Previous hospitality, sales, marketing or retail experience
  • Must be able withstand physically demanding tasks (lifting kegs, bottles, and grain bags)
  • Must be well organized, able to multitask
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and presenting to groups
  • Cicerone/Prud’homme certification® or experience in the beer industry would be an asset
